Fawad claims to have PM’s support in spat with Senate chairman

A week after Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan contradicted Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry’s version of cabinet meeting wherein the information minister had claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan threw his weight behind him after the Senate ban, Fawad reiterated his claim on Saturday.

Fawad once again claimed that the PM and the federal cabinet have expressed concern over a ruling by Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani that barred the minister from attending proceedings of the Upper House. The minister also accused Ali Muhammad Khan of giving a baseless statement in the Senate.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, who has a habit of raising a ruckus in parliament, was barred from attending the Senate session on Nove 15 after he had failed to apologise to the house despite Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani’s directives.

The chairman had demanded an apology from Chaudhry after opposition’s insistence and warned the information minister that he would be barred from the Senate if he failed to tender an apology.

Following the ban, Fawad quoted the PM as saying that nobody had the right to disrespect any minister, the information minister told reporters at a press conference he addressed after a meeting of the federal cabinet on Thursday.

“Should we apologise for asking where the billions of rupees of the poor people of Pakistan went? Should we apologise if we ask how the money of the people of Pakistan is spent?” Fawad had remarked.
