Cops at diplomatic missions to have bulletproof jackets, says Sindh CM

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday said that police deployed at diplomatic missions will be provided bulletproof jackets.

The chief minister said that China and Pakistan are time-tested friends and important development partners and therefore their friendship is not acceptable to Pakistan’s enemies.

He said that is why the country’s enemies attempted to attack the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

He made the comments while talking to Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing at the CM House. The meeting was attended by Consul General of China Wang Yu, Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Inspector General Police Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam and Principal Secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro.

The chief minister said that the attack on Chinese consulate was unfortunate, but timely action by the provincial government had thwarted it. The Chinese ambassador appreciated the efforts and timely operation by the provincial government.

He expressed profound grief over the loss of the lives of two policemen and two civilians. The ambassador also thanked the chief minister for visiting Chinese consulate soon after the attack and said the visit infused a sense of confidence and personal care among the Chinese staff members.

The chief minister said that he had directed the IGP to conduct security audit of all the consulates and provide bulletproof jackets to the policemen deployed there.

“We are also working to complete the safe city project on war footings,” he said.

Shah said that the force deployed at Sindh-Balochistan border had been instructed to strengthen their security and checking system. “

Sindh and Balochistan governments are jointly working to keep an eye on the movement of terrorists and outlaws at the borders,” he said.
