A driver, who has worked for the influential Talpur family for 15 years, has declared properties in Dubai worth approximately Rs650 million, according to a report in the local media.

The driver, identified as Hamid Samoo, has been issued a number of notices by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to explain his sources of income.

Hamid Samoo, who fled the country to Dubai in March last year, is believed to be associated with former president Asif Ali Zardari’s sister Faryal Talpur.

Samoo’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) shows his present address to be the same as Talpur House. Additional evidence showing his connection with the Talpur family is that he registered his cellular SIM card with the same address in 2003.

He also paid Rs13m in taxes and fines to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) over Rs650m worth of properties he declared to be the owner of under an amnesty scheme this year.

Furthermore, Samoo’s undeclared income/assets stand at approximately Rs52m.

A similar case concerning Faryal Talpur is Ghulam Abbas Zardari giving her the power of attorney in Dubai during 2014.

Ghulam Abbas Zardari paid Rs0.5m in taxes to the FBR last year but did not declare his overseas assets.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Murtaza Wahab denied the allegations that Faryal Talpur had anything to do with the matter. Wahab added that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the election tribunal had also dismissed these allegations earlier this year.
