Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda on Friday said that he has a “right to use licensed weapons for self-defence” after he was criticised for arriving with a weapon during attack on the Chinese consulate in the provincial capital.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader was criticised on social media over the matter.

“I was informed as I was in the vicinity & I further informed the concerned agencies. As a Pakistani I didn’t shy away, it’s my right to use my licensed weapon for self defence. At least I’m not a coward like many hiding behind keyboards…,” he said on twitter.

Vawda had said that he arrived at the site of the attack on the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Security forces on Friday foiled a terror attack targeting the Chinese consulate situated in Karachi’s Clifton area.

Two policemen, ASI Ashraf Dawood and Constable Amir, were martyred as the gunmen tried to enter the consulate. Two civilians, a father and a son who had come from Quetta for visas, were also killed. A security guard was critically injured.
