Rare fish discovered in Gwadar sold for more than Rs1m

PISHKAN: A rare fish, locally known as kir (sowa), found near Balochistan’s Gwadar area has been sold for around Rs1.4 million. It was caught two days ago by a local fisherman.

As per reports, the croaker fish or Arabian Sea meagre fish, weighed almost 41 kilogrammes. It is noted for producing a special matter in its chest and stomach which is used for medicinal purposes. The fish reportedly only comes to the coast during the current season for breeding.

According to Gwadar Development Authority’s senior official and environment expert, Abdul Rahim, “Last year more than 10 fish of the same breed were caught and sold for more than Rs10 million.”

He further informed that, “The fish is bought from local fishermen and taken to Karachi where it is sold for an even better price.”
