NAB chief reiterates resolve to root out corruption

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal Thursday said the bureau was putting in all its resources to arrest proclaimed offenders, absconders and corrupt elements on basis of solid evidence.

Chairing a meeting to review the overall performance of regional bureaus, he directed the officers to dispose of mega corruption cases on a priority basis, besides transferring low magnitude ones to other anti-corruption departments so that all are disposed of within the prescribed timeframe of ten months.

“Eradication of corruption is our faith and NAB is determined in this regard.”

He said the bureau did not believe in vengeance, adding that complainants should be dealt with respectfully.

“NAB has devised an effective operational mechanism to conduct complaint verification, investigations and inquiries by utilising collective wisdom of senior supervisory staff,” he said and maintained that no one could dare to influence investigations anymore.

Earlier, the meeting was informed that the bureau has apprehended 503 corruption accused within the past 12 months whereas complaints have been registered against 44,315 people, out of which 1,713 were verified, inquiries were initiated against 877 persons, investigations were conducted against 227  persons and 440 corruption references were filed in different accountability courts.

NAB has deposited a record Rs2.580 billion in the national exchequer after recovering it from the corrupt, officials told the meeting.
