Symposium held on redefining role of educational technology in 21st century

KARACHI: A symposium, organised by SZABIST Department of Education and LearnTech.Pk was held on November 17 at SZABIST, Karachi with the purpose of redefining the role of educational technology in the 21st century.

Information Science and Technology Secretary Ali Bahadur Qazi was the chief guest. SZABIST Education Dept HOD Dr Najmunissa welcomed the audience. Faculty member Sadiya Durrani informed the participants about different programmes running at SZABIST. Abbas Hussain was invited as a keynote speaker. He stated how the external environment for today’s teachers and learners has become volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. Educational technologist Nur Ali Tejani talked about exploring possibilities of bringing innovative ways of learning through technology.

A panel discussion moderated by Samra Peeran included personalities who have made a huge impact in integrating technology in our education system.

The panellists included Jibran Jamshad from Microsoft, Computer Science Department HOD Dr Imran Amin, SEF Managing Director Naheed Shah Durrani, Sabaq Director Sarah Peng, AKESP Academic Head Aien Shah, Sindh Basic Reading Programme’s Aftab Ahmed Shaikh and TCF’s Isfandyar Inayat. They discussed the potential, opportunities and challenges of changing classroom practices through ICT. They discussed how they had witnessed remarkable improvement in developing literacy in remote areas of Sindh, North and Chitral region after integrating technology.

The session was concluded by a vote of thanks by SZABIST President Shehnaz Wazir Ali. Awards and certificates were distributed to the guests followed by refreshments.
