PESHAWAR: The head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted to investigate the kidnapping and murder of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar was replaced on Tuesday, reports suggest.

The previous head of the JIT, Islamabad SP Investigation Gulfam Nasir, was replaced by DIG Operations Faisal Raja, according to reports.

Reports suggest that the appointment of Raja at the post was made because of the importance of the case.

Last week, a seven-member JIT was constituted to probe the abduction and murder of Dawar, a notification issued by the chief commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) said at the time.

SP Dawar, who was the chief of Peshawar police’s rural circle, was kidnapped in the G-10/4 area of Islamabad on October 26, and his body was found in a remote area of the Afghan province of Nangarhar on Tuesday.

According to the notification, one member each from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI) would be included in the JIT besides police officials.

“The Joint Investigation Team shall complete investigation within the stipulated time period as laid down in the ATA 1997,” read the notification.
