Govt ready to unveil new education roadmap: Shafqat Mehmood

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood on Tuesday said that government is planning a roadmap for education and would unveil it in the next few days.

Speaking at the 60th anniversary of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), he said that the present government is seriously engaged in planning a roadmap for education.

“We are going to focus on four areas that include helping out-of-school children, constituting a single national curriculum, improving quality of education and developing skills of our young people,” he added.

“These four priorities will be part of our objectives and in the next few days, we will be unveiling the plan”, he said, adding that the government will unveil a particular programme in the capital city for out-of-school children with other partners.

The minister said that the FNF has done a great service to the civil society of Pakistan as it provides a platform to public and financial resources. “Stronger civil society organisations are the essential part of the democracy,” Mahmood said. “Democracy cannot progress without strong civil society organizations”

He said that such activities reflect a strong relation between Pakistan and Germany.

Speaking on the occasion, German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler said that FNF has been working in this country for the last 32 years. “This is a long engagement to support civil society to promote democracy, to advocate for economic freedom and focus on education”, he said, adding that education can give solution to all problems.

He said that freedom is under threat. “There are challenges to mutualism and rule of law,” he said, adding that no system would be able to survive without strong rule of law of system.

Kobler urged the PTI government to help 22 million out-of-school children back to schools.
