–250 kanals of state land worth billions retrieved from encroachers in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Administration (ICT) on Monday demolished several buildings, plazas, markets and illegal constructions to retrieve 250 kanals of state land worth billions from the illegal encroachers/occupants.

CDA Director Enforcement Faheem Badshah, ICT Assistant Commissioner Saad Bin Asad, other relevant officers from both departments, National Highways Authority, officers of the Planning Wing, Land and Rehabilitation Directorate, and others participated in the operation.

While a heavy contingent of police was deployed and in order to, cater to any unpleasant situation Counter Terrorism Force and Anti Riot Unit of the ICT Police with the backup of Rangers were also deployed during the operation. Furthermore, the heavy machinery of the MPO Directorate and other formations of the CDA were also utilised during the operation in addition to two excavators provided by the NHA.

During the first day of the operation, illegal encroachments/constructions from 1.5 kilometres on the right of way of GT Road, from Tarnol Phatak towards Peshawar, were completely demolished and state land was retrieved.

As per detailed garnered, 150 illegal shops, 20 rooms, seven hotels, 30 sheds, five kiosks, 10 fruit stalls, one wood stall, 10 other stalls, eight chicken shops, six hotels, two service stations, three containers and 10 boundary walls out of which two constructed on more than 10 kanals state land among other encroachments were completely demolished.

It is pertinent to mention here that operation was conducted after the demarcation carried out by the revenue staff of the CDA, ICT and NHA. During the operation, which was initiated on Monday against the illegal encroachments on the right of way both sides the road would be demolished. This operation will continue on Tuesday.
