Group behind DIG (r) Kakar’s murder also involved in 15 other target killings: Quetta DIG

QUETTA: Quetta Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Razzaq Cheema on Sunday said that retired DIG Naeem Kakar was a victim of targeted by the same group that is involved in 15 other target killings. Terming the incident regretful, he said that the threat of terrorism is a constant one. He, however, regretted that the slain DIG had not requested for security.

He was also accompanied by the FC Sector Commander Brigadier Tasawer.

DIG Abdul Razaq Cheema informed the media that Naeem Kakar was targeted when he was going to offer prayers. Special wings, agencies and police are investigating into the case and their results would be shared with the media.

While commenting on security to be provided to the procession of 12th Rabiul Awal, the Quetta DIG said that processions will come out from 13 points in Quetta. He said that 3,000 personnel of Police, Balochistan Constabulary and Anti-Terrorist Force would be deployed to provide security to the processions. Apart from that, FC personnel will also perform their duty to maintain law and order situation and Levies would be assigned the duties of security on mountains, he added.

In order to control traffic, 400 personnel of police would be deployed, he further said.

The DIG informed that all the routes of processions will be checked by the Special Branch. Six walkthrough gates would be installed at the entrance of processions and simultaneously and the route of processions would be observed through helicopters and CCTV cameras, he added.

Abdu Razaq Cheema said that survey of shops, hotels, houses, markets and residential areas has been completed in connection with processions of 12th Rabiul Awal and security passes will be issued to those police and FC personnel who will perform their duties.

About the Safe City Project, Cheema said that the project of Safe City is with the law department and consultants.  He said, “We are also waiting that the project of Safe City is completed forthwith.”

Commenting on the problem of traffic and parking, Abdul Razzaq Cheema said that all the institutions will have to coordinate with each other in this regard.

On Saturday, former DIG Naeem Khan Kakar was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Quetta.

Police cordoned off the entire area and started efforts to arrest the suspects. The governor and chief minister of Balochistan condemned the incident in their separate condolence statements.

The chief minister took notice of the incident and ordered the departments concerned to take all possible steps to ensure arrest of outlaws.
