The Supreme Court on Saturday fixed November 19 as the date for the hearing on a petition seeking the formation of a new joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the Model Town incident.

The apex court has issued notices to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his brother Shehbaz Sharif and 137 others in this regard. A copy of the court notice has also been sent to Hamza Shehbaz, Rana Sanaullah, Daniyal Aziz, Pervaiz Rashid, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif, Abid Sher Ali and other respondents in the case.

The accused police officers include former IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, former Lahore DIG Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar and then Security SP Salman Ali Khan.

At least 14 people were killed and 100 others injured in police action against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in Lahore’s Model Town area during an ‘anti-encroachment operation’ on June 17, 2014.
