–Info minister says previous govts should explain where this huge amount of money was spent
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said on Saturday that Rs1.5 trillion were transferred to Balochistan during the last 10 years from the federal kitty, asking the previous governments where this money was spent.
Quoting the Minister of State for Revenue Hammad Azhar in his tweet, the minister said Rs1.5 trillion were given to Balochistan during the last 10 years from the federal government’s exchequer.
“Exact figure transferred to Balochistan as per @Hammad_Azhar in last ten years total Rs 1500bn or Rs 150,000 crore from federal kitty, it does not include provincial taxes. Ask them where this money went aur Jamhoriat/Parliament ka waqar khatray mein per jata hai (and when you ask them this, the democracy becomes endangered,” he wrote on Twitter.
He said the amount transferred to the province does not include provincial taxes collected during the period by the Balochistan government.
Fawad, without taking anyone’s name, said that the democracy and the sanctity of the parliament come under threat, whenever you ask “where the amount was spent from those remained in power during that tenure.”
On Thursday, the info minister had expressed disappointment over the treatment meted out to him in the Senate.
He was briefing the media after a meeting of the federal cabinet. “We should actually apologise in the Senate for why we asked where the poor people’s money was spent … Where funds to the tune of 42 trillion given to Balochistan government were spent … Who is responsible for economic terrorism,” asked Fawad.
