LAHORE: Politicians from different political parties have criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement regarding ‘U-turns’.

On Friday, in a meeting with senior columnists, PM Imran said a leader who does not know how to take U-turns according to the requirements of the situation is not a real leader.

“Hitler and Napoleon suffered huge defeats and caused losses as they did not take U-turns,” he said.

The premier, citing an example from his cricket days when he led Pakistan’s national team, said, “We used to make a strategy and then step out into the field but if the opponent team formed a strategy against ours then we would have to change it.”

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif on Saturday took a jibe at Prime Minister Imran Khan’s earlier statement, claiming “he will take a U-turn on his statement referring to U-turns in a very short time”.

Similarly, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah criticised PM Imran’s remarks, saying there could be no greater change than a democrat appearing in Adolf Hitler’s form.

“All Pakistanis who uphold democracy would have been shocked at the prime minister’s statement,” Shah said while addressing a ceremony in Sukkur.

“Even Ziaul Haq and Yahya Khan did not liken themselves to Hitler. [Pervez] Musharraf did not even do that,” he said.

“A person with such a mindset became the prime minister of the country. People’s mindset and votes were disrespected and this needs to be strongly condemned,” he added.

However,  President Arif Alvi  came forward in support of the premier and shared that he too has taken “U-turns”.

While visiting a shopping mall in Lahore on Saturday, the president told reporters, “I have taken many U-turns in my life.”

The president further said, “Decisions are taken according to the situations.”
