LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday adjourned the hearing of a suo motu case pertaining to the misbehaviour of a minister of the Gilgit-Baltistan government with airport staff due to the absence of the minister.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up the case at the Lahore registry regarding the alleged misbehaviour of Gilgit-Baltistan Minister for Tourism Fida Hussain with the staff of Islamabad airport.

As the hearing began, the court was informed that the minister was out of the country and will return on Nov 29. Upon this, the chief justice remarked that the court will hear this case in Islamabad when Fida Khan will return.

The court then adjourned the hearing till Dec 3.

On Friday, CJP Nisar took notice of Khan’s misbehaviour with the staff and summoned the minister and airport staff on Saturday at the Lahore Registry.

According to a press release, the chief justice had taken the notice of the incident at the entrance of the Islamabad airport.

“According to media reports, the flight was delayed due to bad weather and the minister pushed the staff member so hard that he stumbled,” the statement read.

Fida Khan and Provincial Minister for Law Advocate Aurangzaib had also burnt their luggage at Islamabad Airport as a protest over the cancellation of a flight to Gilgit for the third consecutive day.

Other passengers also staged a protest over the flight’s cancellation and chanted slogans against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The protest came to an end after assurances by the airport manager.
