Paparazzi chase Deepika, Ranveer as they leave wedding venue

The day had it all – tradition, glamour, ultra-luxury and a bit of showbiz drama in the end. While we are still waiting for pictures of the couple, thanks to tight security, inside details from the wedding are helping us cope with the impatience. However, latest reports have revealed that the couple will release the pictures Thursday evening after their second ceremony concludes.

Some seven hours after ceremonies began at the stunning Villa del Balbianello, the newlyweds emerged from the confines of the villa accompanied by their closest family. Earlier in the day the couple had been married in a traditional Konkani ceremony in keeping with Deepika’s background.

Waiting for the new couple was a vintage EURO 500,000 Riva Tritone luxury boat to take them to CastaDiva resort where they and their family and friends are staying. The captain of the vessel told us that he would be taking the couple back to CastaDiva in ultimate Italian luxury and style.

Much to the dismay of the gathered handful of journalists waiting to catch a glimpse of the couple however, their entourage proceeded to cover up the couple in a number of black umbrellas as they boarded and settled into the boat.

As they took off, the journalists’ boats began following the couple only to be repeatedly blocked by security boats that cut in front and attempted to tip the chasing boats over. In a separate boat, a number of photographers who had appeared with the couple began chasing the journalists’ boats and taking photographs.

Security was extraordinarily tight as small powerboats manned by beefy security guards sailed round and round the smaller boat filled with journalists in order to unsettle and potentially tip them over. It was not a pleasant feeling to be rocked by the waves created by the security boats.

Ranveer’s sister and father

Earlier in the afternoon, with the chant of Har Har Mahadev and Ab Yeh Vivah Sampann Hua, at 1.05 PM Italian time, Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone were declared man and wife at the beautiful Villa Del Balbianello overlooking Lake Como in northern Italy.

Both the stars looked magnificent in traditional south Indian attire – Deepika in an elegant peach Sari with her hair tied in a severe bun while Ranveer wore a long cream coloured kurta suit. However, another report stated that Deepika wore a red and gold Sabyasachi outfit, complete with jewellery that included family heirlooms, while Ranveer donned a Sabyasachi white kurta and dhoti.

The Konkani ceremony stretched for more than 5 hours. Quoting a guest, Mid-day reported that Padukone followed all the South Indian rituals, including the Kanya Aagaman, which marks the bride’s arrival at the mandap.

“Deepika’s walk up to the mandap was the highlight of the wedding. Shubha Mudgal performed live as she walked,” the guest was quoted as saying.

The wedding ceremony was followed by an elaborate sit-down lunch with South Indian fare served on banana leaf.

The couple was surrounded by friends and family members dressed in white attires on the villa’s famous patio overlooking the lake. The venue was decorated by 12 florists from Florence, who adorned the place with Deepika’s favourite flowers — white water lilies and white roses.

The Sindhi ceremony, will be held Thursday, and is expected to have Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan in attendance.
