Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and member of the National Assembly (NA) in a tweet on Thursday has said that Pakistan will control much more than four provinces, including the Red Fort which is a landmark in the city of Delhi in India.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) lawmaker was responding to former captain of the Pakistan national cricket team Shahid Afridi’s controversial remarks on Kashmir conflict.

On Wednesday, Afridi, during his address to students at the British parliament, said that Kashmir would be better off as an independent state as Pakistan is not capable of controlling it. “I say Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir. Don’t give it to India either. Let Kashmir be independent. At least humanity will be alive. Let people not die. Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir. It can’t even manage its four provinces. The big thing is insaaniyat (humanity). People who are dying there, it is painful. Any death, be it from any community, is painful,” he said in a video gone viral on social media.

Later in the day, former foreign minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif regretted the 38-year old cricketer’s remarks on the subject of Kashmir.

“Despite given shower of blood daily by Indian butchers, the warmth of the [Kashmiris] love [for Pakistan] does not peter down”, Khawaja Asif said in a tweet.

“I have sympathies for Shahid Afridi. The question was beyond his comprehension”, he added.

However, Afridi now says that the statement was misconstrued by the Indian media. “My comments are being misconstrued by Indian media! I’m passionate about my country and greatly value the struggles of Kashmiris. Humanity must prevail and they should get their,” he tweeted in response to the countrywide criticism.
