US Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has decided to postpone his visit to Pakistan, citing scheduling issues.
The ambassador, who embarked on the trip last Thursday starting from Afghanistan, was due to visit Pakistan in order to take the dialogue on Afghanistan further and then, travel to Qatar and UAE. Now, he won’t be arriving in Pakistan but will continue with the rest of his travel itinerary.
According to reports, Khalilzad has cancelled his visit because the leadership he wanted to meet will be out of the country, which could refer to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi who are travelling to Malaysia next week.
