It’s finally happened! Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are officially married.

According to the Hindustan Times, the couple tied the knot in the traditional Konkani ceremony on Wednesday. The Indian media also reported that loud cheer could be heard from all around.

Unsurprisingly, Karan Johar, was the first person from the industry to wish the happy couple, writing, “Such a stunning gorgeous and beautiful couple! Nazar utar lo! Deepika and Ranveer! Badhai ho! Love you both! Here’s to a lifetime of love and joy!”

One of the most awaited weddings of the year officially kick-started at Italy’s Lake Como Monday. While, details are limited and tight security does not allow for pictures, a number of India publications have managed to get some of the details of what went down on the first day of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s four-day wedding celebrations.

According to the Mumbai Mirror, many of the guests arrived in Italy on Monday and gathered around the duo who perfectly complimented each other in monochromatic colours – Deepika in a white dress and Ranveer in a formal black suit – as they exchanged rings. The evening engagement, which was followed by a formal dinner, had only 40 guests in attendance.

A mehndi ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon in which both the ladies and gents, led by the groom himself, had henna applied on their palms. As per a report in DNA, both the functions took place at different venues. While, Ranveer’s ceremony took place at the CastaDiva Resort, overlooking Lake Como, Deepika’s function took place at Villa d’Este, which is about five kilometers away.

A sangeet followed in the evening which featured performances by singers Harshdeep Kaur and Shubha Mudgal. While Harshdeep sung traditional mehndi songs, Shubha joined in with thumri songs.

Bollywood songs were also played on the occasion and Ranveer reportedly made a dramatic entry, with his song from Gunday, Tune Maari Entriyan playing in the background.

A source shared that Ranveer enjoyed the most at the mehndi ceremony and “danced his heart out.”

“The ambiance at the event was electric. Ranveer enjoyed the most at the mehndi ceremony. He danced his heart out while his lady love was busy getting the mehndi done. Old songs were being played. First Shubha Mudgal performed, followed by Harshdeep Kaur. Romantic songs, ghazals and sufi songs were performed. Followed by a performance by Ranveer. He also danced on the beats of dhol,” the source said.

Another source said, “Ranveer was in his element completely. His happiness was evident and he made sure that it is one of the most unforgettable events of his life. The handsome hunk with his energy was seen grooving to the dhol beats. He was so excited that at one point he also took the dhol away and started playing himself and making the audience dance. Then he walked up to his lady love and played the dhol for her as she blushed. Then the duo was seen shaking a leg together while the DJ played some dhamakedaar music – which were a mix of retro and new songs.”

Sources told the publication that both the bride and groom donned colour-coordinated Sabyasachi outfits in shades of pink and red, with the designer also present on the occasion.

A guest shared that bride-to-be Deepika got emotional and was seen shedding a few tears.

“Shubha Mudgal was performing a thumri when Deepika got emotional and was in tears. When she broke down, Ranveer, who could understand her emotional state, walked up to her and hugged her tight and consoled his lady love. He ensured she was smiling again with all his crazy love antics,” the guest was quoted as saying.

Early on Wednesday morning, the couple will take the pheras in a traditional South Indian style with the Konkani ceremony continuing through the day. The following day, they will take the vows again in an Anand Karaj ceremony, in Sikh tradition. A source shared that just over 100 guests – mostly family and friends of the couple as well as their close Bollywood friends and mentors Shah Rukh Khan, Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali – will begin arriving at the venue at 9 am on November 14 for the main events.

As per a report by ANI, security at both venues is on a par with that provided for a meeting of world leaders. At the CastaDiva resort for instance, any and all guests or visitors have to present a special wrist band while security guards cover up the camera lenses on mobile phones with stickers. On the lake itself, numerous security boats patrol just outside the perimeter of the property to deter snooping photographers or gossip hunters.

In fact, the local authorities have warned boat rental companies from renting out boats for anyone from outside town. Attempts by the ANI reporter to rent a powerboat were repeatedly stymied. Rental company owners say they have been asked to make strict inquiries as to the purpose of the renters.

In a town that relies heavily on boating and sailing, no one is willing to take visitors on to the water, especially the area surrounding Villa Del Balbianello, the 13thCentury villa where the main wedding will take place over two days starting Wednesday. It is understandable, given how the entire economy of Lake Como is so dependent on the world’s rich and famous who value their privacy.
