LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Wednesday said the working relationship that he and Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar share is one of its kind and had not been witnessed among the two posts ever before.
“He [Ch Sarwar] is like my elder brother,” the chief minister said while speaking during a meeting with the Punjab governor, provincial assembly lawmakers from southern Punjab as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates for Senate by-polls – Waleed Iqbal and Seemi Ezdi.
Last week, in a leaked video that went viral over the internet, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi were seen asking PTI Jahangir Tareen to “control” the Punjab governor. “Sir, control Sarwar! He will not let your chief minister continue,” Federal Minister for Housing Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema was heard as saying to Tareen. Elahi was also heard repeating the same: “Control this Sarwar.”
Tareen was heard questioning Buzdar’s authority as the chief minister of the province and commenting on the differences between PTI and PML-Q.
“Roles of the governor, the chief minister and speaker have been determined by the constitution and all of us are united like a family. We will achieve the goal of a new Pakistan as envisioned by Prime Minister Imran Khan by working like a team,” the chief minister said in the meeting that came soon after multiple attempts of all stakeholders to play down the video.
Both Waleed Iqbal and Seemi Ezdi are lifelong lieutenants of the party and will achieve success in the senate elections, he said, adding that the problems faced by people of southern Punjab will be solved by the government.
Addressing the meeting, Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said that there are absolutely no differences between him and the chief minister.
“We are on the same page and are working as PM Khan’s team.”
He said that they have already been working jointly and striving to fulfil the premier’s dream of a new Pakistan.
The MPAs, on the occasion, expressed resolve to support the party through thick and thin.
They also reiterated their commitment to ensure PTI’s victory in the Senate elections on two vacant seats scheduled for Thursday (today).
Among others present on the occasion were chairman of the executive council set up with regard to the establishment of southern Punjab province, Tahir Bashir Cheema, and independent MPAs, namely Ahmed Ali Aulakh and Qasim Abbas Langah.
