Sindh Food Authority’s performance to be overseen by new committee

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani on Tuesday issued directives for the formation of a committee to overlook and revive the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) in light of deaths of two minors who allegedly passed away due to food poisoning.

The committee includes lawmakers Dr Sohrab Sarki, Sanjay Parvani and Ganhor Khan Asrani, and it will assess the performance of SPA, as well as give suggestions for improvement.

The two boys, Ahmad, 1.5, and Muhammad, 5, had dinner with their family at Arizona Grill in Karachi and later consumed candy from a shop in Nisar Shaheed Park.

Their condition worsened on Sunday morning and they died that afternoon. Their mother was also hospitalised.

However, so far no concrete evidence has emerged about the exact cause of deaths. Police sealed the eatery and the park and sent food samples to SFA for analysis.
