ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday extended the interim bail of TV anchor Dr Shahid Masood till November 23, in a case pertaining to the alleged embezzlement in Pakistan Television (PTV).
Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani resumed the hearing on TV anchor’s plea seeking extension in his interim bail in a corruption case.
During the course of proceeding, the petitioner’s junior counsel contended before the court that the senior counsel Shah Khawar couldn’t appear before the bench due to engagements in Lahore High Court.
He prayed the court to extend the interim bail of his client till the next date of hearing, which was accepted by the court.
He argued that the arrest of his client would cause great loss to his client.
It may be mentioned here that Masood, the former PTV head, is being investigated for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of funds worth Rs38 million. Masood allegedly signed an agreement with a fake company to obtain the media rights for the Pakistan Cricket Board due to which the state-owned television channel suffered a huge loss.
The TV anchor escaped away from the trial court when it canceled his bail and ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to arrest him. Thus the accused had approached IHC to obtain interim bail.
