ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Tuesday granted post-arrest bail to 18 alleged arsonists involved in the nationwide protests by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

The accused were earlier sent to jail for 14 days on judicial remand on the request of the investigation officer.

The protesters were arrested for damaging public property for their personal gains and attacking police personnel during the protests in Islamabad against Aasia Bibi’s acquittal.

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand granted bail to the 18 accused against a plea filed by 21. The bail request of the remaining three was rejected by the court.

The Shahzad Town Police had arrested the arsonists after registering cases under sections 109, 148/149, 147/188, 353/186 and 341/427 of the Pakistan Penal Code and under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
