Power division summons report over major power lapse in Karachi

KARACHI: The Power Division of the Ministry of Energy summoned reports from the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and K-Electric, the city’s power supplier, after the city faced another major power breakdown on Monday morning.

According to reports, NTDC has to submit a report on the matter within 24 hours.

Power was restored a few hours after the transmission line of the national power grid tripped.

The update was shared by K-Electric through their Twitter handle.

“Partial supply from national grid has resumed and restoration of power supply to affected areas is progressing swiftly. Supply to parts of Korangi, Garden, Jacob line, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan, Defense, Gizri and Landhi has started.”

K-Electric added that it is expected that power will be fully restored “over the next few hours”.

Earlier, it was revealed that the power failure was caused by “tripping in the transmission line of National Grid”.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to customers and request their cooperation during this time,” the power supplier added.

Areas affected by the power breakdown include Defence, Clifton, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Nazimabad, Jahangir Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, FB Area, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, PECHS, Garden, Buffer Zone, Nazimabad and Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
