LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Monday restricted officials from giving interviews to news channels after opposition parties protested against the “media trial” being conducted against political leaders by NAB Lahore’s director general.
According to a press release issued by NBA, only the NAB chairman or the bureau’s spokesperson will share details [on case concerned] with the media and public.
The press release reiterated that all mega corruption cases would be taken to their logical end. The accountability watchdog also said that it respected all political leaders.
The NAB chairman has also sought record of media interviews by NAB Lahore Director General Maj (r) Shahzad Saleem from the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
Saleem has been accused by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz of carrying out media trial of its president, Shehbaz Sharif. The joint opposition also tabled a privilege motion in the National Assembly suggesting swift intervention of the House into the matter.
Last week, Saleem had claimed in five consecutive TV interviews that NAB would file a reference against Shehbaz Sharif by the end of November.
He further claimed that official cheques were deposited in personal bank account by Shehbaz’s son-in-law Ali Imran.
