Former PU vice chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran released

LAHORE: Former vice chancellor of the Punjab University, Dr Mujahid Kamran, was released from Camp Jail on Saturday.

He was welcomed by his wife and students waiting outside the jail.

Speaking to media, Dr Kamran said that the case against him was nothing but a “bogus” one.

“I have not done anything wrong and that is why I have been released,” he said.

The National Accountancy Bureau (NAB) had arrested four professors, including Dr Kamran, Prof Dr Raas Masood, Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Prof Dr Aurangzaib Alamgir and Prof Dr Kamran Abid on October 13.

They face charges of making illegal appointments and misusing their powers.

Dr Kamran has also been accused of illegally appointing his second wife, Dr Shazia Qureshi, as principal of the Punjab University Law College (PULC).

On Wednesday, the four PU professors were granted bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC).

A two-member bench of the court – headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi – had granted bail against a surety bond worth Rs0.5 million each to Dr Mujahid Kamran, Kamran Abid, Dr Liaquat and Amin Athar.
