ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday reiterated his commitment with the federal and provincial governments towards the eradication of polio, adding that it is a national cause and every effort would be made to make Pakistan a polio-free country.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the National Task Force on Polio Eradication in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Health Amir Kiani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Shah Farman, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah, Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, chief secretaries of all four provinces and representatives of the Polio Partner Agencies (PPA).
PM Khan stressed upon the need for larger efforts to make the masses aware about the distressing effects of the crippling disease of polio, especially for the future of the country.
The meeting was briefed about the current status and the efforts afoot in order to rid the country of polio. The provincial chief executives briefed the meeting about the efforts being taken by their respective governments in this regard.
Furthermore, Pakistan Army showed its resolve to provide security and an enabling environment for the polio eradication campaign’s countrywide success during the meeting.
The premier, while wrapping up the meeting, thanked international partners for their utmost support towards this important cause.
It is pertinent to mention here that four more cases of polio were reported on November 6 in Mastung.
As per details shared by the local health department, four children including two boys and girls aged between 5 to 8 years were diagnosed with polio virus in Sherein Aab, an area of Mastung.
The recent addition of these cases has brought the total number of polio cases to ten this year.
