Finance Ministry had no role in Qasmi’s appointment as PTV MD: Dar

ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Ishaq Dar has said that the Ministry of Finance had no role in the appointment of Attaul Haq Qasmi as the managing director (MD) of Pakistan Television (PTV).

In a press statement issued here on Friday, he said the then prime minister had approved Qasmi’s appointment as PTV MD on the recommendations of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

“The Finance Ministry approved his perks and privileges on the basis of a summary received from the Establishment Division,” he said.

Dar added that the salary of Rs1.5 million per month was determined while keeping in view Qasmi’s professional standing and experience. “The PTV administration can be held accountable for the additional expenditures.”

The former finance minister also said that he had informed the Supreme Court about his position in this regard on July 15 and announced that he would not pay any amount or penalty in the case, as was fixed by the court.
