LAHORE: A prestigious change of guard ceremony was held here on Friday at the mausoleum of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal in connection with the 141st birth anniversary of the great poet, philosopher and visionary.

A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy, clad in immaculate whites, assumed ceremonial guard duties with traditional spirit and enthusiasm.

Pakistan Navy Lahore Station Commander, Commodore Naimatullah, was the chief guest of the ceremony.

Commodore Naimatullah inspected the guard of honour of the Navy and Rangers contingents and laid a floral wreath at Mazar-e-Iqbal. He also wrote his comments in the book kept at the mausoleum for the guests.

The participants in the ceremony prayed for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan.

The mausoleum was opened for the general public after the ceremony and citizens and fans of the great poet visited the Mazar-e-Iqbal to pay their respects to the revolutionary.

A number of gatherings will also be held across the city to discuss and highlight the teachings of the great philosopher.

Allama Iqbal conceived the idea of Pakistan and is, therefore, regarded as one of the founding fathers of the country.
