AZAD JAMMU KASHMIR: A 15-year old schoolgirl on Thursday consumed rat poison, less than 36 hours after she was allegedly raped by her teacher in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) village
The girl was rushed to the hospital where was declared out of danger while the police arrested the suspect.
“The teenage victim, a resident of Karela Payin village of Kotli district’s Nakyal subdivision, was raped at 11 pm on Tuesday while her poor parents were in Lahore for the purpose of visiting a relative,” Nakyal police Station House Officer (SHO) Faisal Siddique told a local news outlet by telephone.
The SHO revealed that the girl was an eighth grade student in a state-run middle school of the locality where the 25-year-old suspect teaches.
She was raped on Tuesday night and consumed poison on Thursday after confiding in her family about the incident.
“The victim was not in a good condition when her initial statement was recorded by police at the hospital, wherein she said she trusted her teacher and did not have any idea that he would resort to such a shameful act,” SHO Faisal said adding that the police would have to wait for a statement until the victim’s condition improves.
Police have registered a case under Section 375 of the Azad Penal Code (APC) and Sections 5 and 10 of the Zina (Enforcement of Hadood) Act, 1985 against the teacher for committing rape and under Section 325 (attempt to commit suicide) of APC against the victim for voluntarily causing harm to herself.
