Sadia Jabbar’s ‘Shameless Proposals’ to explore Pakistan’s rishta culture

The rishta process in Pakistan is no secret. Women, and men, across the country go through the process if they opt for an arrange marriage. Unfortunately, the process can sometimes take a toll on an individual’s self-esteem and self-worth. To address and highlight the issue, Sadia Jabbar Productions, known for presenting versatile and unconventional projects, has announced a web series titled Shameless Proposals in collaboration with BVC media.

Written by Saji Gul and Atlas and directed by Hunny Haroon, the web series will explore the shallow and often “cringe worthy” practice of “hunting” for the right girl, in our society. It elaborates the process of how well-educated, free thinking and independent girls are often forced into arranged marriages and made to believe that its for their own good.

According to a press release, the film will discuss seven different stories of proposals.

Producer Sadia Jabbar said that web series said expected to be the future of the entertainment industry, adding, “Television and films are mainly a platform for families but web series give you the power of standing up and voicing your opinion or highlighting the evils of society through entertainment and to not only change how entertainment is seen but also how it is perceived”.

Meanwhile, co-producer Tehseen Shaukat speaking about the project said, “The medium of web entertainment is still untapped in Pakistan, although it has been gaining popularity all over the world, the audience can be classified as niche but holds immense potential to make your voice heard”.

Sadia Jabbar Productions previous projects include the Osman Khalid Butt-Ainy Jafri starrer Balu Mahi and drama serial Mere Bewafa.
