ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Rawalpindi chapter filed a reference against former senior officials of the Nation Testing Service (NTS), including ex-CEO Haroon Rashid, additional director Tahir Maqbool Khakwani, secretary Waqar Sami, additional director operations Faizul Akbar, Kamil Ahmad, former regional head M Javaid, director Yaqoob Jan, regional head Imran Khan, among others.
As per details, the bureau has found that the top management of the NTS was allegedly involved in corrupt practices. The former senior NTS officials allegedly committed financial embezzlement and irregularities, causing a loss of over Rs 158 million, according to the reference.
The accused persons in connivance with the ex-NTS CEO allegedly recruited fake consultants through the regional heads for misappropriating/embezzling huge chunks of amounts from the funds and have used these amounts for personal gains/benefits, the reference says, adding that the accused manipulated the payments of false claims of the factitious consultancy through bank cheques and proceeds of these cheques were received in cash by the accused persons for their personal uses.
During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that the accused manipulated the payment of false claims through cheques issued in the name of false consultants. After realisation of proceeds of cheques, in the account of the above said false consultants, the part of the amount in question was received back in cash through respective regional heads.
NAB Rawalpindi Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi said that the bureau hopes that joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check the corruption before the happenings. “The NAB officers/officials under the leadership of NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal are determined and committed to perform their national duty with absolute objectivity, thorough professionalism, and unimpeachable integrity and without any leanings for or against anybody,” he said.
