LAHORE: Punjab cabinet members, the performance of whom will not be satisfactory during the first 100 days of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, will be served show-cause notices, reshuffled or removed from office altogether, Pakistan Today has learnt.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had provided the first 100 days agenda for “Naya Pakistan” earlier this year. The six themes included in his government’s 100-day plan are transforming governance, strengthening the federation, revitalising economic growth, uplifting agriculture and conserving water, revolutionising social services and ensuring Pakistan’s national security.

“With 70 days passing already, all provincial ministers have started preparing their performance reports,” sources told Pakistan Today and added that the cabinet members have directed their departments to submit the reports as early as possible.

“The ministers will forward their respective reports to Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, who will later submit it to the prime minister. Further, the premier, after reviewing the reports of all the ministers, will decide if any one of them is to be issued a show-cause notice over unsatisfactory performance or terminated from office.”

Sources in PTI also informed this scribe that the ministers in Punjab have directed the secretaries of their departments to submit a comprehensive report on their performance whereas the report needs to mention the steps taken by the government departments for the welfare of the people and what changes were brought since after they assumed charge as well.

According to sources, not much has changed in the government departments whereas the public still has to face several problems. They said that tourism in Punjab could not be boosted either and the rates of the sightseeing buses had also been increased.

“Contrary to the promises, no job opportunities have been created by the government and the ban on hiring in the public sector has also not been lifted. Further, the encroachment removal operation in Punjab has also not been implemented in its full spirit.”

However, PTI sources confirmed that after the assessment of the 100 days’ performance of all ministers, reshuffling in the cabinet or removal from office was expected.

Speaking to Pakistan Today, Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan said that the cabinet members were working to fulfil the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“It’s been two months since the government took over and 16 of our departments are working in accordance with the prime minister’s plan. The ministers are working to meet the targets set by the premier.”

“They [ministers] are not government officers and so no show-cause notices can be issued but we will be reviewing their performances and the chief minister will refer the reports to PM for a final decision regarding any change in the cabinet members’ portfolios,” he added.
