MARDAN: Mardan Division Commissioner Abdul Ghafoor Baig on Wednesday said that the new Mardan Transport Station (MTS) being constructed on 732 Kanals land with a cost of Rs 180 million will provide the best transport facilities to people of the area.

He said that the government was making efforts to provide more facilities at main transport stations and a bus station situated in the main bazaar was being shifted to Chamtar in this regard.

He said that shifting the transport station outside the main bazar would reduce overcrowding at business centres and bazaars, and provide much-needed relief to people, especially the working class and students.

The commissioner issued instructions to the concerned officials stating that they must make sure of the transport station’s completion by June 2020.

Commissioner Baig said that 45 thousand Qingqi rickshaws were running in the city out of which only 60 per cent were registered. He directed the local administration to get the remaining rickshaws registered so that routes could be allocated to reduce traffic chocking inside the city.

He also issued instructed the transport department to review intracity fares and make sure that nobody charges fares higher than the ones approved.

He warned that strict action would be taken against violators.
