The Senate Special Committee on the Issue of Increasing Incidents of Child Abuse was informed on Monday that the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) randomly picked individuals from its database as fathers of orphans or children with unknown parentage, a local media outlet reported.
The committee was further informed that no consent from families was obtained while assigning them children. The parliamentary committee sharply criticised the policy followed by NADRA.
A NADRA official said that only the father’s name is assigned to the children and no identity cards are issued to them so succession and inheritance issues do not arise.
