ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said the opposition parties had been making allegations of rigging just for their political survival, adding that they have no evidence.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, he said 2018 general elections were the most transparent and fair polls in the country’s history, which were even acknowledged by the European Union observers. On the contrary, general election 2013 was openly rigged, he claimed.
“Form-45 of thousands of polling stations were missing during 2013, whereas in case of the last election, the forms were uploaded on the website of Election Commission of Pakistan which ruled out any chance of rigging,” Fawad said.
He said Defence Minister Pervez Khattak had been unanimously elected as the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on General Election 2018.
Khattak’s name was proposed by Pakistan People’s Party veteran leader Syed Naveed Qamar in the panel’s first meeting, he said.
The minister said a sub-committee would be constituted to finalise its terms of reference.
