Law enforcement reluctant to arrest landlords suspected of sexual abuse

Local law enforcement agencies are showing reluctance in arresting two landlords allegedly booked for sexually assaulting and abducting two young girls, residents of Basti Gulab Khan of Mauza Muhammad Murad Dahir, who were later murdered for “honour” by two relatives when they returned home.

Mureed Hassain Bhabra, the girls’ father, has told police that Shah Mureed Kharu and Ali Dost Kharu, both residents of Rujhan, had kidnapped his daughters, Farzana who was 18 years old and Basran who was 20 years old, on November 4.

He alleged that they had taken them to an undisclosed location and sexually assaulted them, before releasing on November 5.

After the girls returned home, two relatives Shah Nawaz and Muhammad Saleem murdered them to “restore family honour” and the dead bodies were shifted to Sadiqabad Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy.

Father has claimed that police is refusing to arrest the two landlords. However, Bhong police have lodged an FIR (No 222/18) under sections 302, 311 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the double-murder suspects and claim to have arrested three people in connection with the case.
