Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda has said that an extended delay in the construction of Dasu dam has been costing the federal and provincial governments RS340 million daily.
“The federal government is suffering a loss of Rs300 million every day, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) daily losses stand at Rs40 million due to delay in the dam’s construction,” he said.
This statement was issued after a meeting with the KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, and representatives of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). The federal minister added that this meeting had set a precedent for it was the first time the KP chief minister had been asked to take part in the discussion.
“We will go out of the way to facilitate provinces on such initiatives,” he said, adding that he would try his best to secure funding for the project.
He also accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government of causing delays in the project, claiming the former rulers had taken 16 months to hold a meeting on the project.
He added that another meeting on the matter would take place on Nov 30.
