Alice Wells reiterates commitment to establish mutually beneficial US-Pakistan ties

ISLAMABAD: The United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells reiterated US Secretary Mike Pompeo and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s objective of establishing a mutually-beneficial relationship between the two countries.

Wells highlighted the importance of all actors in the regions to improve stability, security and cooperation in the South Asia region, a press release by the US Embassy in Pakistan said.

Alice Wells is currently on a visit to Islamabad to discuss important issues in the bilateral relationship and welcomed commitment by Pakistani leaders to work towards the objective.

The upcoming Geneva Conference on Afghanistan and the Afghan peace process were included in issues on the agenda during discussions between Wells and Pakistani officials.

Director General Military Operations Nauman Zakria, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior and Minister of Finance Asad Umar met with Alice Wells as well.

Furthermore, members of civil society, think tanks representatives and experts in regional security also met with Wells to discuss a range of issues.

Opportunities to develop business and economic relations between the two countries were also discussed during the talks.
