LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday issued a notice to the Ministry of Interior (MoI) over a petition seeking the removal of names of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh heard the case.
During the hearing, the petitioner informed the court that the interior ministry is not providing the copy of written orders to place the Sharifs on the list, barring them from leaving the country.
The court then issued a notice to the ministry of interior and sought a reply in this regard.
Later, the hearing was adjourned to January 14.
The names of former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz had been placed on the ECL after the orders of the federal cabinet.
Earlier, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, a 16-member federal cabinet had decided to place the names of former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on the no-fly list as it announced to expedite the repatriation of ‘absconding criminals’ including Sharif’s sons and former finance minister Ishaq Dar.
