Multan’s District Health Authority (DHA) on Monday ordered authorities concerned to take all measures to bar the sales representatives of pharmaceutical companies from entering into the premises of the health facilities after a complaint was lodged through Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Citizens Portal.
It was further ordered that the health facilities must display the following message: “Medical Rep is not allowed in their health facility”.
The complainant had requested the prime minister to take note of the widespread practice of doctors recommending certain medicines marketed by the sales representatives against which they receive gifts from the pharmaceutical companies.
Further, it was argued that because of this practice, the prices of the medicines go up, causing problems for those who could not afford expensive drugs.
It was requested that a control mechanism is put in place to curb the said practice.
