LAHORE: Lahore DIG (Operations) Waqas Nazir on Tuesday appreciated three policemen and rewarded them with honorariums for putting their lives at stake while protecting public property amid last week’s protests.
The recipients of the cash rewards, one sub-inspector and two constables, had sustained severe injuries after protesters had assaulted them in the Mall Road and Kot Lakhpat areas of the city as the cops performed their duties.
On Tuesday, Rs50,000 were awarded to Constable Farhat Mehmood and Rs25,000 each to Sub-Inspector Shahid Nadeem and Constable Wajid Ali by the DIG.
According to a statement issued here, the DIG, while speaking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the cops in protecting public property amid violence and protests. He said that Lahore police had always showcased courage while facing even the most critical of circumstances.
“You are the police’s pride as you put your own lives at risk while protecting others,” he said and added that best medical facilities should be provided to the injured cops.
He also announced establishing a unit, the only task of which would be to negotiate with protestors instead of resorting to extreme measures.
Lahore SP Security Faisal Shahzad was also present on the occasion.
