LAHORE: A child fruit vendor from the video that went viral on social media and was robbed of all bananas on his cart by religious protesters on Monday said that he just wanted to save his donkey’s and his own life.
While talking to the media along with Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, the child said, “I was passing by when people gathered in the area stole all my bananas. I just wanted to save my donkey and myself and I don’t know who those people were.”
He further said, “My brother had given me those bananas to sell but some people stole them.”
Earlier during the press conference, Fawad Chaudhry commented on the same matter and said, “The protesters did not leave a child fruit vendor nor a poor rickshaw driver. Women were disrespected and vehicles were set on fire. They stole bananas from a child and you can judge their moral standing from that.”
Earlier, a video was making rounds over the internet where a young boy selling bananas in Sheikhupura was attacked by a frenzied mob that raided his cart, running away with the goods while the boy struggled to protect his source of livelihood.
With the video going viral over the internet, Fawad on Friday requested the Punjab government to extend financial help to the young fruit seller.
“I request the Punjab government to trace the young vendor and compensate for his loss,” the info minister said in a message on his Twitter handle.
