KARACHI: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Monday once again criticised the Sindh government and asked where it had utilised the Rs750 billion the federal government had provided to it in the last 10 years.
He said that the federal government had started taking measures to solve the problems of Karachi.
“We are improving the infrastructure of Karachi and we hope that clean water supply issue would soon be solved as talks in this connection were in progress with the UAE government,” he added.
He said that everyone was aware of the performance of the Sindh police but if the federal government talked about it, it was termed “interference in the provincial autonomy”.
He said that the federal government wanted to take the Sindh government along because if it did not cooperate with the provincial government there would be a lot of hurdles for the latter. However, the rulers of Sindh ought to realise their responsibilities, he added.
In retaliation, Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Information and Archives Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that Chauhdry’s statement regarding the transfer of Rs750 billion to Sindh government is ridiculous and added that Sindh got less than its share in the last ten years.
The advisor added that it reflected that the information minister was unaware of the revenue affairs and his statement was fake, fabricated and suspicious. “Fawad should correct his figures and it is the constitutional right of any federating unit to get the federal transfers and it should not be considered as a favour”, Wahab said.
He said that not only were the rights of Sindh being pillaged but they were also being taunted, adding that the federal government is yet to pay off Sindh’s rightful share and demanded the federal government to immediately release the funds.
On Sunday, Chaudhry leveled serious allegations against the Sindh government and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and his statements were met with a strong reaction from Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
Murtaza Wahab termed Fawad Chaudhary’s statement a move to divert the attention of people from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s inability to run the affairs of the country. He further said that Chaudhry’s statements were a reflection of a dictatorial mindset. “Fawad should not be blamed for this statement as his political grooming was conducted under the dictators and he had the honour of serving dictator of recent times in the capacity of his spokesperson,” he said. He was of view that federal government’s tactics would not succeed in diverting the attention of masses from the Tusanmi of price hike in the country owning to PTI government’s policies.
