Supreme Court takes notice of extravagant govt residences

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of luxurious government residences occupied by officers of different capacities. Millions are spent annually on the luxuries, maintenance and security of the government residences spread on an area of 2,600 kanals across Punjab.

According to police sources, while almost 30,000 government and private employees have been deployed in these residences to facilitate the officials, all the expenses are taken care of by the government.

According to details, among all the huge government residences, the one that tops the list is the Commissioner House Sargodha at 104 kanals. Similarly, the total area of the residences of seven Punjab police DIGs and 32 SSPs alone is 860 kanals.

Among the largest residences of the SSPs of the Punjab police are those of the Mianwali, Rajanpur, Sheikhupura, Bahawalnagar, Attock and Gujranwala SSPs, that are 70, 37, 32, 32, 29 and 25 kanals respectively.
