AIDS programme staff awaits regularisation

KARACHI: Sindh Health Department has failed to regularise the contract of employees of Sindh AIDS Control Programme (SACP) despite a lapse of 10 to 20 years.

Almost 27 contractual employees associated with SACP, including lab technicians, storekeepers, computer operators, peons, office boys and counsellors, have not been regularised on their posts despite a lapse of several years. Few of them have been working in the programme since 1995 on contractual basis due to the negligence of the Sindh government.

It is worth mentioning that the provincial government has regularised the contractual staff of Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), Lady Health Workers Programme, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) and other vertical health programmes but the staff of SACP is still waiting for regularisation.

Talking to PPI, the staff of SACP was disappointed in the provincial government because the contracts of people working in different government departments had been regularised but no decision had been taken on their case. They also said that they had never been considered for any promotion nor were they ever given any allowance or bonus and they are also not entitled to the pension facility upon retirement.

The staff had been assured by the Sindh government that their contracts would be regularised but the latter failed to keep its promise.

PPI tried to contact SACP Provincial Programme Manager Dr Younis Chachar but he was not available for comments on the issue.
