ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Commission of Pakistan (SJCP) on Thursday proposed the name of Justice Athar Minallah as the new Chief Justice (CJ) of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The SJCP meeting was presided over by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar as its chairman at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. All members of the Commission participated in the meeting and considered the name of Justice Athir for the post of IHC chief justice.

After detailed consideration, the Commission sent its recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice for further course of action.

The incumbent chief justice of the IHC, Justice Muhammad Anwar Kasi, is set to retire on November 27. Justice Kasi, whose proceedings of misconduct ended by the SJCP three weeks ago, will be considered as the longest-serving chief justice.

Earlier, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui was the senior-most judge of the IHC but he was removed by the SJCP in a case of misconduct.
