LAHORE: The hike in the prices of petroleum products by the government has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).

The federal government, ministry of petroleum and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) have been made respondents in the petition.

The petitioner has made the plea that an increase in the prices of petroleum products is a violation of the constitution. “Despite the decrease in the prices of petroleum products in the international market, the prices of petroleum products are illegally being increased every month by the government in Pakistan,” states the petition.

He further stated that the government is already illegally charging 17 per cent additional sales tax on petroleum products.

The petitioner further prayed the court to declare the recent hike in prices of petroleum products null and void.
