Traffic jam in Islamabad as TLP workers stage sit-in

ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers on Wednesday staged sit-ins against the acquittal of Christian blasphemy convict Aasia Bibi in various parts of Islamabad and that led to massive traffic jams.

Islamabad Police on their Twitter account also shared details of the traffic jams in Faizabad, Aabpara and Kashmir Highway and suggested that the commuters use an alternative route.

The Islamabad Police tweeted, “Faizabad, Aabpara and Kashmir Highway adjacent to Aabpara is blocked by protesters. Road users are requested to avoid these places.”

Furthermore, the red zone has been sealed due to security concerns as well.

The road leading from Rawal Dam roundabout to red zone has also been blocked by placing containers.

Moreover, Islamabad Police shared a diversion plan for commuters in the city on their official Twitter account.

The diversion plan is as follows:

1 –Diversion point: Serena Chowk

Alternate routes: Use Margalla Road, Jinnah Avenue to reach the Red Zone.

2 –Diversion point: Aabpaara Chowk (Diversion from all directions)

Alternate routes: Margallah Road, Fazl-e-Haq Road, 7th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue

3 –Diversion point: Aabpara Chowk, (from Kashmir Highway to Chaand Taara Chowk)

Alternate routes: For BaraKahu and Murree (from Islamabad and Motorway) you can take the Chaand Tara-Sports Complex-Rawal Dam Chowk-Kashmir Chowk route.

4 –Diversion point: Faizabad Chowk (diversion from all directions)

Alternative routes: those coming from Rawalpindi to Islamabad can take the IJP Road. those going from Islamabad to Expressway Karal can take the Rawal Dam, Kahna Pul Expressway.
