PM, COAS review security situation

Prime Minister Imran Khan met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss the security situation amid the countrywide protests after the Supreme Court’s verdict to acquit Aasiya Bibi in the blasphemy case, media reports said Wednesday.

PM Khan and Gen Bajwa held a meeting at the PM’s House where the law and order situation came under discussion.

The premier had earlier made it clear that the state will take action against the violators to fulfil its duty of protecting the people. “The state will fulfill its responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of people and take strict action against violators.” the premier said while addressing the nation on TV and radio on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the federal government directed provincial governments to summon session related to law and order. A session will be held under Chief Commissioner Islamabad, reports said, adding that Islamabad deputy CC, DIGs, SSPs, SP have also been called to attend it.

In the meeting, opening routes in the twin cities will be discussed and also removing protestors peacefully from the areas, it was added.

Media reports said an operation strategy will also be considered in case of protestors not dispersing peacefully.
